HYCCT1429 Peace, Love, Joy

Happy Thanksgiving Eve!  It’s a sloppy, wet one here, turning from rain to snow.  The kids are very excited about the first snow.  Hopefully, it won’t be so disgusting that they can be shipped outside to play this afternoon when the get out of school early.

In honor of the snow, I have another snowflake card I made for HYCCT1429, which was no designer paper.  I loved how this turned out and will be using this card for my stamping day with friends on Friday.

Actually, to say that I loved this result is probably an understatement. I likely squealed a little!  For my background, I used my Gelatos and created this peaceful blue background on watercolor paper.  I then added my Snowflake Fusion Cover-up die cut on top.  I added in a bit of organza ribbon and a sentiment on a Pierced Fishtail Flags STAX from Clearly Sentimental About Christmas.  Simply beautiful!  I can’t wait to recreate it with my friends on Friday!

Have a  wonderful Thanksgiving!  Thank you for taking the time to visit my blog!

HYCCT1424 Resist Snow

Happy Thanksgiving week Monday!  It’s a short week for my kids at school, made even shorter by various things — Turkey Trot tomorrow, which my daughter is very much looking forward to, and an early dismissal on Wednesday.  To add to the mix, we are up for a winter storm on Wednesday.  We do not travel for Thanksgiving and no one travels to us, but my husband does commute and I do hope this isn’t a pain on Wednesday.  Well, any more of a pain than what it already is!  Hopefully those traveling can get out early and beat the storm.

In honor of the incoming snow, I’ll share my crayon resist card from HYCCT1424.  Again, this is one of those techniques I had seen many times before, but had never attempted myself.

This turned out really quite lovely.  Very subtle!  So I used my Snowflakes Cuttlebug embossing folder for the resist.  I don’t have a brayer so I used an ink dauber in Pastel Blue from Hero Arts instead.  I kept the rest very CAS to allow that resist and subtle color to show through.  I added in a Pierced Snowflake with a blue brad for the center and a sheer organza ribbon, which I love.  The card base is Nightshift Blue.

HYCCT1430 Need a Lift?

Happy Thursday all!  I’m plugging away at all of these HYCCT posts.  I think I’m down to 8 left.  This year, I kept myself very organized by using a little notebook and each day I wrote down the challenge info.  I could then fill in the info about my card when I made it.  During back to school sales, I picked up a set of post-it type flags from the dollar store in all sorts of colors.  I then coded my pages to know which ones still needed to be done, which needed to be photographed and uploaded and finally blogged.  It really helped.  A little OCD can be good sometimes!

Today’s card is from HYCCT1430.  The challenge was to be inspired by things that take off.

I’ve seen many cards similar to this with a “flutter” or “kaleidoscope” of butterflies.  {A group can also be called a swarm or a rabble, but I think flutter or kaleidoscope are prettier.}  I used my MFT Butterfly dies to cut out a bunch of rainbow colored butterflies.  I brought their wings up slightly to add dimension and added in some pearls.  The sentiment is from Paper Pretties.

HYCCT1431A You Brighten My Day

Happy Wednesday!  It’s a dreary, foggy morning here in NJ, so I’m going to brighten it a tad!  HYCCT1431A was one of three challenges on the last day and the challenge was to have at least one layer that was tilted {given that a diagnosis of cancer tilts everything on its head}.

To create my layers, I pulled out my Traditional Tags and Pierced Traditional Tags STAX.  I cut the tags from Recollections Neon papers, which are so bright and so much fun!  I kept it very CAS and didn’t do anything to the neon pieces.  I then cut a lightbulb from vellum and the heart filament is hot pink.  Love how the lightbulb looks!  I then carefully stamped the sentiment, using Hero Arts neon inks, on a Pierced Fishtail Flags STAX.

HYCCT1428 Congrats Balloons

Happy Tuesday!  First off, thank you to all of the servicemen and women who have served and continue to serve.

My card today was for HYCCT1428, which was simple & sweet — show some pretty pink balloons.  Since the challenge was simple & sweet, I chose to keep my card simple & sweet.

I pulled out my MFT Balloon STAX and some scraps of pink.  I cut my balloons and glued them to a white card base, purposefully hanging the largest two off the edge.  I trimmed them and added twine to each balloon.  Before finishing it, I cut a tag from Tag Talk and tied it with a bow around the bunch of balloons.  Simple, sweet and perfect for someone getting good news at the end of cancer treatments!

HYCCT1426 B-O-O-B-S Bra

Happy Monday all!  I have a fun challenge card from HYCCT today.  The HYCCT1426 challenge was “Let’s Cheer” and in your biggest cheerleader voice, gimme a…..

B — use black
O — at least 1 circle layer
O– use a round gem
B– use blue
S — use a sentiment

What does that spell?? This lovely blue & black bra!! LOL!  My first thought was to grab the Authentique Journey papers as they are really pretty shades of blue.  I then grabbed my MFT Support Hope die-namics.  It isn’t all that often that you can put a bra on a card!  The bra is black with blue flowery cups.  There are little rhinestones in the center of each bow on the bra.  It’s matted on a double circle, the top white one being stitched and having the sentiment “Save the Tah Tahs.”  I added in a really pretty satin bow and called it a day.

HYCCT1425 Bokeh Peace Joy Love

Happy Saturday!  I’m all messed up as to what day it is because of my kids & husband being home the past two days.  I’ll be really confused by Monday! LOL!  I’m moving right along with my HYCCT challenge cards.  HYCCT1425 was to use the bokeh effect on your card.  Fresh & new pencil erasers are perfect for this technique.

I had just received the trio of Peace, Joy and Love from MFT and wanted to use them for this challenge.  I created my bokeh with Razzle Berry, Pink Lemonade and Amuse Blush.  I then cut out the trio of words and adhered the cutout panel to a piece of Razzle Berry.  After each word, I added a trio of tiny pearls to create ellipses.

For a second card, I made a super CAS card.  I glued the cut out words onto a white card base and that was it!  I think I actually like the super CAS card better!

HYCCT1422 Always Here for You

Happy Friday!  I have one of my favorite cards from HYCCT today.  HYCCT1422 was “Show Me the Love” by showing love without saying “I Love You” on the front.  When this came together, I think there may have been some shrieking!

While I was flipping through my die binders, I came across the MFT Layered Heart dies (retired, sorry) and a lightbulb went off.  I cut two vellum hearts with the heart die with holes for stitching.  I sewed them together with some scrapper’s floss and filled them with turquoise and purple heart sequins.  Then I pulled out Sno Cone, Berrylicious and Blu Raspberry to create an ombre background.  Each color was cut with a Vertical Stitched Strip die (I tell you, I’m always going in the opposite direction!  The sentiment is from Pure Innocence Sending Big Hugs.  LOVE, LOVE, LOVE how this came out.

HYCCT1419 LOVE Bricks

Happy Thursday!  My kids are off today and tomorrow for teacher convention.  My husband is also off and hopefully, we won’t drive each other all crazy.

Continuing with my HYCCT cards today, I have my card for HYCCT1419, which was to “spread it around” — use embossing paste on your card.  I do not have embossing paste in my stash, but discovered an awesome recipe for it on SCS.  If you mix equal parts white glue, white acrylic paint and talcum powder, it works like a champ.  I didn’t have any unscented powder, so I used one of my scented powders from Avon and my card smells quite lovely.

I used my MFT brick wall stencil to create my backdrop.  I wanted this to feel like writing on a wall.  The Love is cut from Melon Mambo with the Avery Elle die.  The sentiment is from Simply Said: Love from Avery Elle.  It is such a fun set, with goofy and serious completions to the “love…”  I kept this very clean and simple, adding in a few tiny pearly rhinestones.

HYCCT1415 Silent Night Bear

Happy Wednesday! Going to keep this very brief today as I need to make sure I’m prepped for my class today.  Last week, I forgot my scoring board and it was not easy to score with a ruler!

HYCCT1415 was to use something soft and cozy on your card — whether that be fabric, felt or an image.  I opted for this sweet Bugaboo Polar Bear 2 image, which always makes me “awww” when I look at it. I colored him with Copics and cut him out with a Stitched Circles STAX die.  I kept the card very CAS and popped him up on a snowflake embossed white panel.  I added in a sweet snowflake from Blu Raspberry felt.
