Let’s Get Carried Away

This week’s Cinema Saturday Creative Challenge is the Disney Pixar movie UP! Now, I must confess, we have this movie, but I have yet to watch it. But I am familiar with the fun images in the trailer and the promos. With the challenge requirement of using balloons, I knew exactly what I wanted to do.

My first thought was of the Critter Balloons from Bugaboo. I used the dog with his balloon and created a big bouquet of balloons from it. The balloon was cropped and mirrored in Corel to create the bouquet. Each balloon is cut out and popped up on a dimensional. I drew strings from the balloons down to the dog and then further down to Michael’s hand. (I LOVE these adorable Bugaboo Brats and you will seeing a lot more of them here!) The “sky” was created by painting the entire background lightly with December Sky Shimmerz. I added in some clouds, which you can’t really see in the photo, with Dazzling Diamonds. Ready to be carried away!

Cinema Saturday #66 — A Clueless Lady

We have a snowy Tuesday today — nothing like last week — a soft, pretty snow. It isn’t accumulating on the roads, so that is always good. I had some free time this morning and decided to play along with this weeks Cinema Saturday Creative Challenge for Clueless.

I actually have not seen the movie (my husband has, funnily enough), but I knew which set I wanted to use for this challenge. She’s a Lady from There She Goes was the perfect fit.

Well, she certainly doesn’t look clueless, especially as far as shopping is concerned. LOL! The challenge requirement was to use plaid. I initially pulled out a piece of DCWV patterned paper in a pink & green plaid, but I didn’t like it against my paper choices of Berry Sorbet and Sweet Blush. My next option was to use the Tartan Cuttlebug folder. I decided to use the SCS sketch challenge #266 for my layout, so I went with a white card base and added in the Berry Sorbet & Sweet Blush, each embossed with the Tartan folder.

I colored my lady with Copics and cut her out with a Labels 8 Nestie. Her shopping bags and purse are all cut out and popped up with dimensionals. Between the Tartan layers and the lady, I added in a really special piece of ribbon weaved card stock. Last week, Lori Boyd provided a fantastic tutorial for ribbon weaving on the DCRU DT blog and this technique worked perfectly with this card. I’m so excited about how easy this was and how it turned out – I can see this being an addicting technique. For my ribbon, I used PaperTrey Ink Sweet Blush and Berry Sorbet satin.

I angled my lady to allow for more of the ribbon weaving to show through. No sense in doing it if you can’t see it! I added a sentiment from the She’s a Lady set and cut that out with the smallest Labels 8 as well. The final touches were some Stickles on the shopping bags and Shimmerz on her roses — which I am convinced these embellies rarely photograph nicely. Outside of the photo glitch, I’m thrilled with how this turned out. My curiosity is also peeked, so I’ll likely be watching Clueless soon!

CSCC #64 — Titanic Blessings

YEAH! I finally get to play along with the Cinema Saturday Creative Challenge blog challenge. Often I had never seen the movie or wasn’t in a position to see it or the timing just didn’t work. This week, however, I couldn’t really pass up playing along.

The movie this week is Titanic. I really enjoy this movie and love me some Kate & Leo — heck, even consider Kate Winslet my “girl crush”. *blush* My husband not only loves that I have a girl crush (LOL!), but also loves this movie. However, I am not sure he will ever admit that to anyone other than myself!

One of my favorite parts of the movie is after the formal dinner, when Jack takes Rose down to third class to dance & party. I love the Celtic music being played and the dancing…how Rose kicks off her shoes and starts dancing, going painfully high on her tippy toes…how she “lowers” herself to third class behavior. You can find a video of this scene on YouTube HERE.

For my card, I chose the There She Goes Blessings set. I love the Celtic cross in this set. Since the challenge requirement was to add blue & silver, I decided to stamp the cross with Versamark and emboss it with silver embossing powder. Heat embossing was never my thing and I only have limited powders. I can now see how a super-fine, high quality powder would be a good thing. I cut, embossed and mounted the cross with oval Nesties.

The sentiment fits Jack very well, I thought. Jack lived life to the fullest – taking risks, being passionate, etc. I could totally hear Jack saying this sentiment “May you LIVE as long as you want, and may you never want as LONG as you live.”
